Urine Drug Testing – Laboratory

Urine drug testing completed in the laboratory is the most accurate type of drug testing. If you can afford to wait for the urine drug test result, this is our first recommendation for drug testing. Laboratory based urine drug testing is recognized by the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace: Alcohol and Drug Guidelines and Work Rule (Construction Owners Association of Alberta, COAA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) as the best practice within our industry, and it is legally defensible.

Our laboratory testing is administered by Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories which is certified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and US Department of Transportation (DOT).

All laboratory results are reviewed by our Medical Review Officer (MRO) and results are confidentially reported to your company’s Designated Employee Representative (DER).

Urine Drug Testing – Express

If you need results fast, this is the best option for you. You will receive results same day, and if the result is negative, you can leave our office with a Clean Card in hand. Clean Cards are a wallet-sized copy of a negative test which can get you on a work site quickly.

Express or point-of-collection (POCT) tests have the same cutoff levels as laboratory tests but are not recognized by the Canadian Model or US DOT. This is due to the results of an Express test being visually read and subject to the collector’s interpretation. We require all non-negative Express tests to have laboratory confirmation to ensure accuracy and legal defensibility.

Oral Fluid Drug Testing – Laboratory

Certain situations can make oral fluid drug testing the best choice for you, such as testing in a remote location where access is limited, shy-bladder situations and in some post-incident and reasonable cause scenarios (Canadian Model recognizes oral fluid testing for post-incident and reasonable cause). It is important to note that oral fluid is not as accepted as urine testing, therefore urine drug testing should be the primary option. We send all oral fluid drug testing to the laboratory so you have the most accurate result. The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has recommended cut-off levels for oral fluid but no laboratories currently have SAMHSA certification to administer this technology.

Preparing for a Drug Test

Breath Alcohol Testing

Breath alcohol testing determines the concentration of alcohol in a breath sample. We administer breath alcohol testing using evidential breath-testing devices for both screening tests and confirmation tests, to ensure accurate results. Screening Tests – Determines if a person’s alcohol concentration level is above 0.02 Confirmation Tests – Determines if a person’s alcohol concentration level is above 0.04. If a person’s screening test indicates an alcohol concentration level above 0.02, a breath alcohol confirmation test is performed. Our alcohol testing is administered by Certified Breath Alcohol Technicians and our equipment is regularly calibrated.
  • Preparing for an Alcohol Test
